these are from a recent session, but i thought they fit today so perfectly since it is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!! my kids literally flew out the door this morning. they are so excited to just be done already…we have so much planned for the summer; i know it will fly by way too fast.

you know what was really cool about the evening? the spontaneous-nature of our “plan”. i am such a planner…so tied to my schedule…always thinking about what i have next on my list to do…but for this evening of fun, the only thing we planned was the destination…and the extra dry clothes i packed for the ride home :)

]]> http://heidimccrary.com/blog/?feed=rss2&p=221 0 moments like these… http://heidimccrary.com/blog/?p=201 http://heidimccrary.com/blog/?p=201#comments Mon, 24 May 2010 04:17:04 +0000 admin http://heidimccrary.com/blog/?p=201 make my heart sing. we took the kids to the beach last friday night. we grabbed some sandwiches and had a picnic and then played in the sand and surf. well, i mostly took photos :) i love the photos of them just letting go and absorbing the sea air. i especially love the ones of ethan…we have had some real love/hate moments lately (strong words, but that is how it feels sometimes)…i think it is just growing pains for him and for us :) so, getting these photos really healed my soul. i look at them and i see shades of him at 18 months, when it was just the two of us looking for pill bugs in the back yard…i miss those days so much some times……but, then we have moments like these :)

i also love the photos of brian reading to the kids at the end of that night. we usually both read to the children in their beds before sleep, switching of each night, but when they have sleep-overs (usually in ethan’s bed) we read to both of them at the same time. i’ve wanted photos of this for a long time. glad i finally did it.

Addie read this poem again on the eve of turning 7 and said her auntie really needed to get her a new book now about being 7. she plans to keep the old one, though, so she can look at it from time to time to remind her of what it was like being 6.

we celebrated her birthday with a special Tea at Paris in a Cup in old-town Orange. my mom came with us. just the girls in our hats (they had a hat contest). the spot was perfect, the food was beautiful and very yummy and they even gave her a tiara and a stuffed pink poodle after the meal as a special gift! happy birthday, Addie! i know you are already planning your birthday for next year (she wants to get her ears pierced!!!) but, can we just enjoy 7 for now?? 8 will be here before we know it :)
